1. Bluetooth Technology, what is it?

Bluetooth® wireless technology is the accepted protocol to send content directly to any Bluetooth® activated devices. It is a global standard for wirelessly connecting mobile phones, portable computers, cars, stereo headsets, MP3 players, and so forth. It is built into over one billion mobile devices already, and over twelve million new devices are shipping every month. It is the primary method by which mobile content is downloaded from iSIGN enabled locations. Bluetooth® wireless technology is a short-range communications technology intended to replace the cables connecting portable and/or fixed devices while maintaining high levels of security.  Embedded into consumer electronics like mobile devices, computers, digital cameras and printers, Bluetooth allows these devices to share information with each other.

3. How does it work for consumers?

Users see your out-of-home advertising with a clear call to action – such as "turn on your Bluetooth®" on a banner, news print or a digital signage network. They enable their mobile device and receive a message to opt-in to receive mobile content. When the users opts-in (with one click), content is downloaded to their mobile device using Bluetooth® technology. The content can appear in their text message inbox, videos folder, pictures folder or document folders. When a consumer comes within range of an iSIGN IMS unit and switches their mobile device to ‘discoverable', iSIGN’s IMS unit recognizes the handset and then sends information to it using Bluetooth® technology.

top

4. Does it cost the consumer anything?

NO. The delivery of content is 100% free to the consumer iSIGN’s Bluetooth® messages bypass the cell device carrier and instead originate from a nearby IMS unit, so there is no cost to receive the message.

top

5. What type of permission base does iSIGN need?

All content is delivered on a consumer permitted basis. Unlike SMS and email, it is not technically possible to send content over Bluetooth® without first receiving permission from the end user, via a standard opt-in request message built into the Bluetooth® protocol. The system will not send repeated messages to a user who has declined at a particular location for a particular ad.

6. Can I measure the results?

As iSIGN broadcasts your interactive advertising to cell phones within your signage or location range, consumer’s responses and participation are recorded with iSIGN’s data Logging System for real-time feed back to the advertiser, ensuring maximum effectiveness of each advertising campaign. You will also be able to measure how many people accessed the content at a later time or followed-up on an offer by SMS clicking or click-to-web link

top

7. Why should we add mobile content downloads to our out-of-home advertising campaigns?

Traditional out-of-home advertising can be turned into distribution points which send mobile content directly into users' phones by permission. Delivering interactive mobile content allows you to:

  • Leave consumers with something interesting and lasting on their phone, rather than solely an "eyeball" ad impression
  • Precisely measure the response rates of your content-driven campaign through the iSIGN Data Logging System
  • Give consumers a means of directly responding to an ad on the spot and get further information via iSIGN’s SMS and web linking system
  • Maintain and data-log a recurring dialogue with consumers long after they have left the advertising location
  • Benefit from viral marketing whereby, consumers can forward messages to other friends so they too can share any offers or incentives

top

8. Can I share the interactive mobile message with my friends?

Once an interactive message has been downloaded to our mobile phone, it along with all content can be forwarded to other users. This form of viral marketing beyond the initial delivery locations gives advertising brands additional mind share.

top

9. Can a download message be received by every phone that opts-in?

Every consumer who opts-in can receive a download of some kind. Mobile devices each have unique capabilities, and some enable "richer" user experiences than others provided that they are Bluetooth® enabled. The iSIGN system detects the make and model of the consumer's mobile phone, and downloads the best interactive advertising for that specific device. Not all phones are Bluetooth® capable but that percentage is quickly disappearing and in the near future all phones will be Bluetooth® enabled.

10. What type of mobile content can typically be delivered?

A wide range of content referred to as “Dynamic Digital Merchandising” can be delivered including music, videos, movies, games, ringtones, coupons, wallpapers — all of which may be used as multimedia ads with a compelling offer to the consumer. A complete mobile channel with content links and additional information can be bundled as a “Dynamic Digital Merchandising” experience on a mobile cell phone. You can also deliver a mobile channel, which could be a collections of content links and information bundled into a single package.

11. In what locations does iSIGN offer their service?

We offer this service in public locations globally in tandem with advertising agencies, out-of-home media partners and other physical location partners, such as retail, clubs, restaurants, theatres, malls, hotels, airports as well as private in-house broadcast systems for large corporations and associations and all other public venues. Please contact our office for further applications.

12. Are there any content preparation guidelines I need to follow?

Multimedia and JPEG Bluetooth Ads transferred to cell phone: 176x144 is the standard resolution. You can bump that to 320x240 for newer phones that have slightly higher resolution capabilities or have a faster processor. The safest bet is with the standard resolution. Multimedia specs generally are 10-20 seconds in length and in a 3GP format converted from an AVI or MOV format. They could be as long as you want, but especially for the 3GP you want to stay in this range to maintain a tolerable download length. A JPEG is fine if it is a static ad. For the screens, the files need to be in a SWF format and should be non-looping.

top

13. What should the screen resolutions be and do you offer vertical players?

We can offer both horizontal and vertical players with banner options. The files need to be 720p so the end resolution will be 1360x768. That will be for an advertisement that is one full screen size. If you wanted to break up the size, we could offer players to match an advertisement with a banner. 1080p is also possible, but the resolution of the ads would need to be changed to 1280x1024. Please note that an LCD TV is not the same as a PLASMA TV therefore some PLASMA TVs do not support this resolution.

14. How does the interactive advertising cost compare with other established marketing mediums?

Dynamic Digital Merchandising with iSIGN’s interactive Marketing Solution is usually at least 1/10 the cost of all other traditional advertising formats and captures not only much more mind share but also delivers instant feedback of consumers reactions and participation for each advertising campaign. The mobile cell phone is the final frontier for advertising. Mobile devices are the only media than can receive and respond to advertisements from our system, making it fully interactive and accountable.

top

15. How is the consumer reacting to interactive advertising on their cell phones?

The iSIGN Interactive Media System is currently achieving a 30% response rate in some locations  from the 3 billion cell phone carrying public worldwide.

top

16. Can iSIGN help me plan and design a mobile campaign?

We have worked with many of our customers and partners to plan and design creative and effective mobile campaigns. In addition, our IMS technology is familiar to ad agencies and digital signage companies globally should you be working through any outsourced advertising service.

17. How do Bluetooth® devices communicate?

Bluetooth® wireless technology is made up of a tiny radio transmitter and receiver embedded into an electronic device.  When a device with Bluetooth® wireless technology [for example, a device] wants to ‘talk’ to another device [for example, a computer] it simply broadcasts a radio signal which is received by the other unit.

top

18. Does Bluetooth® interfere with other equipment?

No.  Bluetooth® delivers a low-power ‘tagged’ signal which is specifically designed to avoid interfering with other equipment. This has allowed Bluetooth® to be an easy-to-adopt technology.

top

19. At what frequency does Bluetooth® operate?

Bluetooth® wireless technology is a world standard operating at a frequency of 2.45 Gigahertz (GHz)—This band is referred to as the ISM band (Industrial, Scientific, Medical).

top

20. Are iSIGN’s Interactive Media Systems CRTC-compliant?

Bluetooth® wireless technology operates in a specified frequency range (2.45GHz), the same as a cordless teledevice. By international treaty, this is classed as a public frequency range that is available for use by anyone as long as they use approved low-powered transmitters (such as the equipment iSIGN uses). The CRTC and Industry Canada are signatories to this standard so iSIGN falls within government regulations regarding signal casting.

top

21. What is the range of the iSIGN IMS Unit?

The iSIGN signal is able to reach as far as 100 meters (~300 feet). iSIGN is able to increase or decrease the signal strength to accurately adjust the range depending on the client’s needs for that location. 300 ft RADIUS (100m) = 283,000ft2 (26,267m2) OF CONTINUOUS COVERAGE TO EVERY BLUETOOTH® ENABLED DEVICE 1 antenna communicates with 200+ devices at one time, interacting with 1.4 million people per year at the equivalent cost of a traditional, full colour advertisement in a major newspaper that appears for only 1 day!

top

22. Does iSIGN track users?

Detailed usage reports are made available to iSIGN clients.  The report itemizes how many devices enabled with Bluetooth® wireless technology were detected in the area of the Wireless Servers and goes into detail about whether the message was accepted, rejected or timed out as well as days, times or transmission.

top

23. Does iSIGN send junk mail?

No. iSIGN does not send junk mail. iSIGN is permission-based only.  The units make contact only if mobile users activate their handset’s Bluetooth® and sends content if the user then chooses to be a recipient. iSIGN is committed to sending high quality content and is setting the standard for that quality in the marketplace.

top

24. Does iSIGN comply with privacy laws?

All of iSIGN’s activities are permission-based by nature and completely compliant with Canada’s legislated Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).  We do not collect any personal information from mobile users.
